Working to end the stigma and discrimination of mental illness.

Subrina’s Story

At 16, I was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and bipolar disorder. While this is stigmatized holistically in our society, being part of the Indian community this was a taboo. Six years later and most of the people in my life are unaware of this illness from which I suffer from. I take my medications religiously and abide by doctor's orders and am currently in intensive psychotherapy. I entered a Dialectic Behavioral Therapy program that lasted for about 7 months. This program changed my life and helped me become a high functioning bipolar patient. Though my skills get me through the day, it is still a day to day battle. While I do not appreciate what being bipolar has put me through I can truly say I am proud of who it has made me become.
